Tour de Fibre 2012

This morning I realized that Hanne and May Britt had started a challenge for those of us quilters who like to combine the cycling sport and quilting. Since I am in my summer house at the moment and since it has been raining cats and dogs the last days I would like to join.

I have been sewing the last days and my first work was a tabletopper from Kquilt. I made five blocks but now I have to take a break due to lack of fabric. I have an appointment in the town on Tuesday so then I will go home and collect the fabrics needed. However, I did more sewing today. All the leftovers from the tabletopper were cut in 2 1/2” squares. Some tiny strips in yellow were put in between the squares to make the potholders a bit bigger. I have to wait to finish them until I have been home to collect the wadding. I am now hand sewing the binding of my first made potholders which were also leftovers from an earlier project.

The final table runner is this. I liked it very much.

Double Wedding Ring

It happened much on Friday. First I had to register. Next to find the classroom where my class was to be held. I was so lucky to participate Marti Michell’s class where she tought the Double Wedding Ring. We used templates she has designed herself. She was an inspiring teacher and tought us some trics to make the ring smooth together.Hva jeg syddeDouble Wedding Ring TemplatesFra klasserommet

When the class was finished I had to visit the shop area. However, it was so crowded as it use to be but I found a few fabrics which I bought. Here they are:

In the evening it was time for the usual evening meal with a very nice performance by Marti Michell where she talked about her works and showed many of them live. She told us she doesn’t like to .do slide shows. Instead she brought a three suitcases with lovely quilts from the USA. I took many photographs and will show some of them here: IMG_0957IMG_0954

Bergen and the annual meeting in the NQF

Each year the NQF has their annual meeting in different places in Norway. This year we meet in Bergen in the western part of the country. I went by train this time because the conditions for crossing the mountains by car at this time of the year can be a dangerous drive and it takes a lot of time. It is easier and much more relaxing to go by train. I read, talked with a nice woman in the seat next to me, had  lunch, coffee, listen to music and enjoyed the travel.

I stay at the Radisson Blue Hotel in the very city centre. It is where the exhibitions, the classes, the annual meeting and everything else are going on. I am really excited for the rest of this weekend. I have already packed out my stuff with quilting gears, cutting mats, rulers and things like that. This is my room at the hotel.

Placemats

My latest project has been placemats for a friend. I visited her cottage in July when we cycled from Drammen to Noresund, a distance of 90 kilometers for a training ride before we should participate in Fredagsbirken. Fredagsbirken and especially Birken is a phenomena in Norway among people who do regular training. We enrolled last year in October and started the preparations but after my accident I was unsure if I would  ever be able to go through it. What I found out was that it was easier for me to cycle than to walk so that made it easy. We had regular ride both together and separately. This time I stayed over night and my husband came to collect me the next morning and guess when this happened, the 22. July. We heard about the terror attack when we listen to the radio in the car back home.

Back to the cottage. When we were eating our supper after the ride I said I would like to make her some placemats to thank her for everything she had done for me during my convalescence.
During the last winter she and her husband had built their cottage bigger with a new kitchen, bedroom and a very nice bathroom. I started last week after having a real tidying in my sewing room mainly to get down to my desk and free my sewing machine. I used the pattern of AnnAKa “Byhanen” from our Norwegian magazine Quiltemagasinet.  I really hope she will like them.

Done

Good morning everybody!

A lovely day in my hometown. When we woke up this morning it was – 18 C here so I took a photo with my mobile of the very nice view I have from my windows at 9 am.IMAG0029

Since I broke my ankle I have spent much time on the sofa after I came back from the hospital. The first two, three weeks I only more or less dozed on the sofa with my foot erected as you can see from this photo. The pain was absolutely terrible and I was very helpless. The strong painkillers were my friend then. Fortunately I have a husband who really was fantastic. I have never experienced him like that. He did everything. IMAG0010When I got better I decided to finish a quilt top I made at least 5 years ago. It was basted and I had actually done some hand quilting on it but it was placed beside my side of the sofa in our TV room but I very seldom was inspired to quilt on it. Now I was determined in finishing it while I was sitting still. Last night I sewed the last stitches. The only thing left now is the binding. I will start now. I have found the fabrics I want to use and my husband have to help me to arranging everything so I can finish it. Here it is:

I can see the colours don’t show right on the photo. They are blue, lime and yellow.

The QS Mystery Quilt 2010

Each year Merete Veian makes a Mystery Quilt. I think I have made them all since I first got to know it in 2000. This years issue was very easy to sew. We had to make three blocks of certain colours. Merete made hers from a light background but else I don’t think there are much difference. She proposed we made pillows but I preferred to make a table runner. Stoffene jeg valgteThese were the colours of my choice. I used fabrics from the Benarex Fossil Ferns.
The Table Runner is finished with machine quilting and binding.
Årets mystery quilt fra Merete 2010I made four blocks because I wanted to have a longer table runner than it would have been from only the three blocks. I chose a brown fabric for the background and a red and a yellow/pink for the squares. Now I have the machine quilting left and of course the binding. I really love making the Puzzles Merete has designed and this year was no exception. I hope to make her Puzzles for years to come.
